Description:

I have wanted to visit Calico for many years.  The last time I was there I was 2 years old.  So I decided to host this destination event.

Weather permitting we will enjoy a drive through the mountains on our way to Calico.  I do have an interesting alternate drive planned if there is too much snow in the mountains.

For those who are not familiar with Calico Ghost Town, it is one of the few original Old West Mining Towns. One-third of the original buildings from the 1880’s are still standing.  The rest of the structures have been carefully reconstructed in the old west spirit.  (Check out www.calicotown.com for more information.)  There is a $6.00 entrance fee.

The drive will take about three hours to get to Calico.  We will eat lunch, shop, wander, pan for gold and just generally enjoy ourselves.  We will leave about 5:00pm and head home via I-15.  Anyone who is planning on attending the SDMC Puke on Sunday can get a hotel room in Escondido and continue on down the I-15 after the Calico Run.

We also recommend starting your day with a hearty breakfast at Richie’s before the run.  Plan on getting to the restaurant by 8:00am and enjoy home-style cooking.

Directions:

Make your way to I-15 in Ontario, exit at Foothill Blvd (located half way between the I-10 and I-210).  Go west in Foothill.  Monet Ave is the first street on the right west if the I-15.  Turn right on Monet, then right into Richie’s (and Chevron & Jared) parking lot.

See you there,
Tom & Marna
